GoldBiotics® ICU (ICU = Intensive Care Ultra) is a highly concentrated blend of prebiotics, postbiotics and a fatty acid glycerol ester, designed to optimally support the gut microbiota of dogs and cats.
The gut microbiota is a crucial organ:
-
responsible for 70% of immune function
-
contains 99% of all genetic information in the body
-
produces 40% of all molecules
-
directly influences joints, skin, liver, kidneys, brain (stress, mood, pain), heart, milk production, immunity, metabolic syndrome and reproduction
The combination of seven different ingredients was selected to optimise the gut and its microbiota across the broadest possible spectrum. This approach resulted in multiple patents for one of the developers at GOLDMEDICS.
👉 Prebiotics and postbiotics are molecules that selectively stimulate beneficial gut flora while directly or indirectly inhibiting harmful microorganisms.
Important to note: most dietary fibres are not true prebiotics, as they feed both beneficial and harmful bacteria.
👉 Internal research with GoldBiotics® ICU demonstrated a 60% increase in volatile fatty acid (VFA) production, the key marker of gut health and activity.
1. Medication and medical procedures
During medical treatments or surgery, medication is often required.
Studies (Nature and research involving over 1,000 non-antibiotic drugs) show that most medications, especially antibiotics, NSAIDs and gastric drugs, have a catastrophic impact on gut microbiota.
As a result, the beneficial effects of the gut flora are lost and recovery may take months.
👉 Administration of GoldBiotics® ICU, preferably starting a few days before and continuing during treatment, significantly limits this damage.
2. Poor stool quality and coprophagia
Dysbiosis (disrupted gut flora) often results in poor stool quality or diarrhoea.
Coprophagia (eating faeces) is a common behaviour in dogs.
A microbial imbalance can alter the smell and taste of faeces, making them more attractive.
In some cases, dogs attempt to reintroduce beneficial bacteria through faeces.
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU helps restore gut balance and reduces diarrhoea and coprophagia.
3. Behavioural issues and stress
The gut microbiota influences the gut–brain axis and is closely connected to the nervous system.
A disturbed microbiome may lead to depression, anxiety or aggressive behaviour.
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU contributes to a more stable mood and improved stress resilience.
The gut–brain axis transmits signals from the microbiome to the brain via nerves, hormones and metabolites.
Dysbiosis is often associated with increased stress, sleep disturbances and behavioural changes.
Normalisation of the gut microbiota supports mood, stress tolerance, focus and alertness.
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU increases the production of volatile fatty acids that communicate with the nervous system and can even cross the blood–brain barrier.
4. Skin, joints and liver
-
Skin: Allergic or atopic dogs often show disrupted gut flora, contributing to inflammation and skin problems.
-
Joints: Dysbiosis can exacerbate joint inflammation and arthritis. Studies show that restoring gut flora reduces symptoms.
-
Liver: An unhealthy microbiome can impair liver function and lead to toxin accumulation (e.g. fatty liver, hepatitis).
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU helps prevent skin issues, supports joint health and optimises liver function.
5. Immunity and gut dysbiosis
-
70% of immune function depends on gut microbiota.
-
Dysbiosis weakens immune defences, increasing susceptibility to infections (e.g. parvovirus, gastro-enteritis).
-
Allergies and autoimmune diseases are also linked to disturbed gut flora.
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU strengthens immune resistance by restoring gut microbiota balance.
6. Inflammation and inflamm-aging
Inflammation is a normal protective response, but becomes harmful when chronic.
Chronic inflammation contributes to heart disease, diabetes, cancer and ageing (inflamm-aging).
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU reduces inflammatory responses and helps slow ageing processes.
7. IBD and high blood glucose
IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) causes chronic intestinal inflammation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, weight loss and fatigue.
Hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) results from insulin dysregulation.
Although not directly linked, IBD patients have a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and hyperglycaemia.
👉 GoldBiotics® ICUsupports gut health and can positively influence metabolic balance.
8. Athletic performance
A healthy gut microbiota improves nutrient absorption, reduces inflammation and supports immunity.
This leads to better energy availability, faster recovery and improved performance.
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU contributes to maintaining a healthy gut microbiome.
9. Reproductive health
Dysbiosis can negatively affect fertility through hormonal balance, immunity and overall health.
-
Females (bitches/queens): Supporting gut flora during pregnancy and lactation improves gut development in puppies/kittens and reduces diarrhoea.
-
Males (stud dogs/toms): Disturbed gut flora may impair sperm quality and fertility.
👉 GoldBiotics® ICU supports reproductive health in both males and females.
Prebiotics
Specially selected prebiotics metabolised at different locations throughout the gastrointestinal tract.
This results in a significantly broader and more effective action than standard fibres.
Prebiotics are plant-derived molecules that selectively nourish beneficial gut bacteria and inhibit harmful flora.
Important distinction: most dietary fibres are not true prebiotics, as they also feed pathogenic bacteria.
Postbiotics
Fragments of probiotics that have been fermented in vitro, neutralised and then highly concentrated.
They often consist of cell wall components of probiotics, which exert a strong prebiotic effect.
In GoldBiotics® ICU, the concentration of postbiotics is hundreds of times higher than the amount normally produced in vivo during probiotic breakdown.
Fatty acid glycerol ester
-
Supports the intestinal barrier and helps suppress intestinal inflammation.
-
Strengthens immune defence against pathogenic organisms.
-
Stimulates the intestinal lining to produce microRNAs that promote gene expression and the growth of healthy gut flora.
Optimal dosages
Each dose for a medium-sized dog provides more than 5 g of prebiotic effect.
This exceptionally high dosage makes GoldBiotics® ICU unique in both efficacy and effectiveness.
Proven results
Internal research with GoldBiotics® ICU demonstrated an increase of up to 60% in volatile fatty acid (VFA) production.
VFAs are the most important indicator of gut health and microbial activity.
Probiotics are theoretically beneficial but foreign microorganisms that are administered alive. However, they present several important disadvantages:
-
With 10⁹ CFU (already considered a high daily dose), only 0.000000001 g is administered to a total microbiota mass of ~100 g. The impact is therefore extremely limited.
In contrast, GoldBiotics® ICU delivers 5 g of active compounds per dose. -
Despite thousands of (often sponsored) studies, there is little to no solid evidence of lasting benefits from probiotics.
-
Trials in foals even had to be stopped early due to negative effects.
-
The gut microbiome is an extremely refined ecosystem; foreign microorganisms rarely establish themselves sustainably.
-
After antibiotic treatment, probiotics often hinder microbiome recovery rather than support it.
-
Many supplements contain contaminants or far fewer viable organisms than stated on the label.
-
When benefits do occur, they are usually due to minor prebiotic effects of probiotic breakdown products, not the organisms themselves.
Pre- and postbiotics are hundreds of times more effective and safer in supporting the existing ecosystem.
Example: live yeast (Saccharomyces), one of the most commonly used probiotics, carries multiple risks:
-
competition with native flora for nutrients and space
-
alteration of gut pH and environment
-
risk of overgrowth (candidiasis, fungal infections)
-
immune reactions and inflammation
-
potential transfer of antibiotic resistance genes
-
reduced effectiveness of other gut-supporting supplements
Conclusion: Unlike probiotics, the pre- and postbiotics in GoldBiotics® ICU provide a far more powerful, consistent and proven support for gut health.
Packaging: GoldBiotics® ICU is available in 100 ml and 300 ml bottles.
Shake well before use.
Daily dosage
-
Cat & small dog (<10 kg): 5 ml/day
-
Medium-sized dog (10–25 kg): 7.5 ml/day

Inflammation is the body’s natural response to damage or infection. It is a complex process in which the immune system responds to damage or invaders such as bacteria, viruses and fungi. Inflammation may be visible as redness, swelling, warmth, and pain at the site of the injury or infection. In most cases, inflammation is a helpful response that helps the body repair itself and protect itself from further damage or infection. But when inflammation becomes chronic, it can harm the body and contribute to the development of several diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and autoimmune diseases. Restoring gut flora and promoting a healthy lifestyle can help reduce chronic inflammation and improve overall health.
IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) are two different conditions that are not directly related. IBD is a condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the intestines. This can cause a number of symptoms, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss and fatigue. The cause of IBD is not entirely clear, but factors such as genetics, a weakened immune system, and environmental factors can all contribute. Hyperglycemia, on the other hand, is caused by a lack of insulin or a decreased response to insulin, which causes blood sugar levels to become too high. This can lead to symptoms such as thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision and fatigue. Although there is no direct link between IBD and hyperglycemia, IBD may indirectly contribute to the development of hyperglycemia. Some research suggests that people with IBD have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, which is associated with high blood sugar.
There is increasing scientific evidence that intestinal flora plays an important role in athletic performance. For example, healthy intestinal flora can contribute to better absorption of nutrients, less inflammation and better regulation of the immune system. This in turn can improve energy production and muscle recovery, leading to better performance.
There are indications that disturbed intestinal flora in dogs can play a role in reproductive problems. A dog’s gut flora can influence its immune system, hormonal balance and overall health, all of which are important for reproduction. A 2017 study found that giving female dogs probiotics during pregnancy and lactation can help promote intestinal flora development in puppies and reduce the risk of diarrhea. Another 2019 study suggests that disruption of intestinal flora in male dogs can lead to reduced sperm quality and reduced fertility.
A mixture of prebiotics, where we have chosen products that are metabolized at various places along the entire length of the intestinal tract, making the effect several times more favorable. As a reminder, prebiotics are generally plant molecules that selectively favor the beneficial flora of the host as a nutritional source and directly or indirectly harm the flora that is unfavorable to it. Most fibers are not prebiotics because they provide a food source for both beneficial and unfavorable flora. Learn more about prebiotics A mix of postbiotics. Postbiotics are prebiotic fragments of probiotics that have been fermented in vitro and then neutralized and enriched. Usually it is the cell walls of probiotics that have the prebiotic effect. The amount of postbiotics enriched in GOLDBIOTICS ICU is hundreds of times higher than the postbiotics produced in vivo as a result of the breakdown of commonly used probiotics. . Glycerol fatty acid ester. It has been shown to support the intestinal lining, suppress inflammation in the gut and strengthen the immune system against disease-causing organisms. In addition, the intestinal wall produces microRNAs that promote the expression of genes and growth of healthy intestinal flora. . More than sufficient amounts of the previous 3. One dose for a medium-sized dog contains more than 5 g of prebiotic effect.
Probiotics are foreign microorganisms that are administered “live” through food and are taught to be beneficial. But… . Despite thousands of “sponsored(!)” studies, there are few, if any, that demonstrate beneficial effects on the host . Trials on foals had to be stopped due to the adverse effects. . The microflora ecosystem in the intestines is so refined that it is very difficult for these foreign organisms to establish themselves (and only after months/years) or never. . In contrast to the protective effect of prebiotics, the recovery of the microbiome after taking antibiotics is complicated by the administered probiotics. . They are often contaminated with other microorganisms that are not listed on the label . Research shows that most probiotic supplements (including well-known brands) contain far fewer organisms than claimed on the label . If there is any effect, it is caused by the (small) prebiotic effect of the breakdown products of the probiotics. . Using pre- and postbiotics to support the existing ecosystem is hundreds of times more efficient. As an example these are the drawbacks of live Yeast (Saccharomyces) the most common used probiotic: 1. Living yeast can compete with the native gut microbiota for nutrients and space. This competition can disrupt the balance of the gut microbiome, potentially leading to a reduction in beneficial bacterial populations. 2. Yeast can alter the pH and other environmental conditions within the gut. These changes can make the gut environment less hospitable for certain beneficial bacteria, further disrupting the microbiome balance. 3. In some cases, yeast can proliferate excessively, leading to an overgrowth. This can cause conditions like candidiasis (yeast infection), which can negatively impact the health of the dog. 4. The dog’s immune system may recognize the yeast as a foreign invader and mount an immune response. This can cause inflammation and other immune-related issues, which can negatively affect gut health and overall well-being. 5. There is a risk that yeast can harbor antibiotic resistance genes and transfer them to pathogenic bacteria in the gut, complicating efforts to treat infections. 6. Yeast can interfere with the efficacy of certain medications or supplements intended to support gut health, rendering them less effective.
Dosage: Cat and small dog (<10 kg): 5 ml/day Medium (10 to 25 kg) and large dogs: 7.5 ml/day It can be used as such or as a booster when taking joint, sports, liver, immune, reproductive nutritional supplements, etc. GOLDBIOTICS ICU is available in 0.1 and 0.3 liter bottles. Since it is a complex product, it is advisable to shake it before dosing. The price per 0.1 liter was deliberately kept low, so that simultaneously providing short-term treatment while administering antibiotics, NSAIDs, etc. remains financially feasible for the customer. If longer use of the medicine is necessary, larger packages are more suitable. Afterwards you can switch to Combi Gold Dog, which contains a lower but sufficient dose of GOLDBIOTICS
